(Part 1 of 4)
This is one of the best psychological analysis of jealousy I have come across. Very helpful in understanding motivation and the mind. Key concepts explored are: envy, resentment, competition, hostility, attachment, greed, selfishness, etc.

It seems as though he's talking about narcissism and people seeking control of others and their environment through their narcissism.
Ultimately, narcissism has to be abandoned for love of all and to share equally in the burden of existence be it suffering and/or joy.

to aikigenius,
the desire to gain knowledge does not require envy, only desire. Envy implies a sort of malevolent resentment, a feeling toward someone else's accomplishments. Sure the knowledge of envy would be necessary for knowledge sake itself, but is not required to obtain said knowledge.
As far as the 'me' stuff, true knowledge would reveal that 'me' is part of a larger 'we'. 'Me' can only take us so far until we need others to substantiate ourselves.

doesnt the idea of knowledge itself.. necessarily require envy? i mean if there is going to be knowledge and ignorance.. then where i am ignorant i must rely to the knowledge of others which means i must imagine what it is like to have knowledge.. and of course i must desire it.. to get it..
isnt the 'me' first stuff an additional thought on top of this..?

cool! thanks for putting on YouTube. I like his lectures. I put some Berzin lectures from his website on my mp3 player and listened to them while moving around the whole day. He is excellent.
