My point wasn't about where the word came from you idiot, it was about what type of people still use it.

It was public schoolboy slang, which is the same demographic who invented the sport of rugby union so actually it does originate from the same type of people.

Soccer came from asSOCiation football. it did not come from rugby union. You can't be that stupid. The word soccer came from football, when they shortened association football to assoc to soc then soccer.

So embittered by the fact that they follow a sport that's only taken seriously by about 10 countries (and 5 of them are in the UK....in fact make that 4 coz Scotland don't really give a shite about rugby much either), that any little insult directed at the worlds #1 sport induces a mass rugby fan wankfest...

There really is no need for a debate in this, clearly there are people in wales who call football soccer, a la Nigel Owen. Rugby has often been called football in wales, after all it is a code of football.

People say they live in Wales or they live in the valleys so they must be right, right?

I've heard players called "footballers" but never have I heard the sport called football, and I live in the Valleys, when you refer to the sport, it's always "rugby". You can call players "Rugby footballers" or "Footballers", but never do we call the sport itself football.
