The Greenwater Trail will take you to the Greenwater Lakes (2 miles from the trail head) or Echo Lake (7 miles from the trail head).
Most of the trail is really nice, but there are places where it's a bit rocky and rough but not so bad that it isn't still family friendly. The scenery, as you know is just superb here in western Washington and this hike surely has some of the best.
The trail follows along the Greenwater River which is in-dentated by small falls and the river is both calm and tempestuous. The variety and ages of the trees include the full range of species indigenous to western Washington and the some of the fruits blueberry and huckleberry were ready for picking while the salmon berry, and raspberries are not fully developed yet; another 2 -- 3 weeks and a person will be able to live up there on the wild fruits.
The first part of the trail ends at two lakes. I whimped out and stayed at the first lake while Scott went on to the second one.
Near this Greenwater Trail is the Naches Trail which was a cut off of the old Oregon Trail built in 1853 to attract folks to the Puget Sound but I guess it proved to rough and was basically abandoned.
plan to do this hike soon

I tried to go hiking here yesterday. People were shooting their guns close to the trail head. We decided not to hike the trail because of it. Who knows what direction they were shooting in and if they were being responsible.
