Is There Life On Mars?

We want to know: is there life on mars?
Mars the fourth planet from our Sun
second nearest neighbor in our 'hood
Mars named for the Roman God of War
we want to know if there was ever life on Mars.

We send probes there
as we are left behind
We search for answers
far from earth
we can do that we are clever
We can shoot boxes filled with experiments
millions of miles from this place
where some of us live in wooden boxes crafted by tools
and some of us are sheltered in cardboard boxes picked from trash
Yes, we can shoot boxes past the moon
and land them on another planet to seek the ultimate answer:
Are we alone?

Is there life on Mars?
Life as we might know?
Is there life now or was there ever life on Mars?
We want to know.

Water once flowed there
where did it go?

We are clever wondering if we are alone
all the billions of us here who share
but cannot live together and let live
on this wondrous planet that we inhabit

We wonder is there life on Mars
Mars named after the roman god of war


What is it we really seek so far from home
that we can not find right here?

We want to know if we are alone
Is there life on Mars?

How you capture that sense of irony. How clever we are with the use of cardboard boxes. Yes, we can also make homes out of them! We want to know if we are alone? Of course we are alone, one only need look around where one lives. You mix into this poem history, astronomy and philosophy. Your poem poses a whole range of questions and conundrums.
