Gopher Tortoise in the house

A gopher tortoise has adopted our family and is living in the back yard. He bangs his shell against the patio doors until we open them so he can come in. He wanders through the house then eventually back out again. We don't feed or play with him, he just seems to be very curious. He isn't afraid of the dogs and they aren't afraid of him, but if they come too close too quickly, he will bang his shell on the ground and hiss.
