Here you can see a magnet flying over a hightemperature superconductor. It's a YBa2Cu3O HTSC which temperature is about 90 Kelvin.
Made in 2008.

  • i dont get why the magnet is flung away above the critical temp. is the material magnetic when its not a superconductor?

  • no it's not magnetic but i suppose that there still is a magnetic field in the middle of the superconductor because its still cold enough there... Whereas in the outer area the temperature is higher

  • please message me back can this be done with dry ice ??? as liquid nitrogen is way too much

  • The sublimation point of dry ice is about 190 Kelvin. To achieve a superconducting state you need a temperature about 90 Kelvin... A "higher" temperature would be desirable but we haven't found such a material, yet!

  • yo dude, whuts that soundtrack called?

    tx und hau rein! :-)

  • The song is called "When The Sun Goes Down" by Anthony Rother ;)

  • Welcome to the world of Super Conductivity..

When they find a room temperature super conductors. The World is gonna be AWESOME.

  • yeah but isnt the magnetic feild created by eddy currents? i thought they were suppose to oppose motion

  • yeah tell how its called its awesome :P
