This is amateur 8mm home movie footage of the 1972 Tournament of Roses Parade, featuring several floats, the Grand Marshall (Lawrence Welk) and, most important of all, The Incomparable Leland Stanford, Jr. University Marching Band, and dollies. I have added music taken from the band's first LP which was issued sometime during that same era.
Stanford band starts at about 1:20.
Oh yeah, there is a Michigan float in there somewhere ...
Many thanks to the owners of this footage for allowing me to post it here on YouTube
This was my first Rose Parade. I was eleven. I recognize several of the floats, including the "Rhapsody in Blue." I remember the 1972 Oldsmobile convertibles. I'm not sure who the first marching band is, but the song is "Yellow River", a huge 1970 hit by the British group Christie. And I love seeing the Stanford Marching Band. My Mother was amused and horrified. A great day, thanks for taking me back.

Also remember at that time when actor Henry Fonda did promos for the Norton Simon during the parade.
