Techtonics Science Olympiad Robot Ramble NY

Stuy's Ramble bot at New York states, 2007-2008. I'm Xo, the builder and captain of Techtonics, Stuyvesant's premier engineering group and its one and only robotics team. My more awesome bot broke down the night before the bus ride, so I whipped this up in a hour before impound. It was designed just to move objects to the starting zone. It scored 125/415 points, and got 20th. :\

It's just four servos ripped off of my dead bot hot glued to a Lexan plate, with a vertical Lexan scoop in front of it. The scoop has less than a millimeter of clearance on a flat surface, so I can get the index cards. It also has 2 pencils stick out on each side of the scoop which traps the tennis balls and batteries.

My comment for this was, "It was a good robot because it did what it was supposed to do, but what it was supposed to do was not enough."

That it managed to beat 28 other teams shocked me.

Nope.

There's no way that should have been last place. Maybe they mixed your team up with some other school that got DQ'd or they thought you didn't enter a robot.

Vex is becoming a plague. :( A lot of Vex stuff is really overpriced (esp. electronics), and they lock you in with some of the proprietary components.

Wish I'd seen the cooler indoor flights though. I'm normally the WS person and programmer, but there were no other builders, so I had to build the bots.

Nice job! But how did you get 20th? Our robot got all the tennis balls and batteries into zone B AND we popped 2 balloons, bet we got last place! Oh well. Maybe they just gave us last place because small schools are statistically supposed to perform not as well.  I'd say you still deserve more credit than us (We used VEX :P).

BTW, do you know if anyone posted a video of the Jedi/bird fight in the auditorium? :D
