For too long, European consumers have been stung by the cost of using their mobile phones abroad. But thanks to the EU, things are getting much better. From the summer of 2007, you will pay no more than 49 cents on calls you make abroad and 24 cents on calls you receive, and prices will drop further in 2008 and 2009. Telephone companies have been given one month from the official publication of the new regulation to offer their customers new, reduced prices.

  • Lol the uk again, I am tired of the brits complaining about every thing.

  • Cool, I didn't even realise until I got to Germany. 02-Deutschland told me I'd only pay the same rate as in England, whereas I was expecting a hefty increase.

  • You have no seen my bills... xD

    Happy new year from spain

  • Oh, woe unto us! If only, as you Überliterates in the US do, we read <i>all</i> the fine print, including all computer software licenses, government bills and product instructions. How can we compete? Osama bin Laden and Zawahari must be writing tricky contracts using their Shari'a law skillz to entrap us as we type! Doomed!

  • In theory the EU commission and council of ministers represent you, too. But the former is appointed by elected govts and the latter composed of elected ministers, so I guess they'll be at best as responsive as your national govt. You'd need to link up with others across the EU to have an effect.

  • That's £68.20 per year per person or £5.69 per month; it would be better to divide by the number of tax payers, but I don't know that number. I guess you can also criticise the allocation of grants, but that's what the EU parliament is for.

  • By "us", I guess you mean the UK. Who told you that? Whoever they were neglected to mention is that £7.5bn is returned each year as rebate and grants. So it was actually £4.5bn in 2003. And it's not like we don't get anything for that-- the services described by the EUtube videos are paid for with this money.

  • thank you eu for saving us on mobile phone charges but taking over 12billion from us yearly

  • it lets the auditors in every year.........

  • so the statement is that Europeans are too stupid to read the fine print?
