Thank you for this. My teacher is working with me right now on getting the wrist to lead more and I'm trying to find that sweet bowing motion that looks so effortless. The mirror with the open strings is helping.

@bassius I keep my thumb bent, but the muscles down around my knuckle start to ache. Is it just because I'm not as used to the weight of the bow in comparison to violin?
-
@bassius yes please for us mere mortals

That just blew my mind.

I picked up some Petz, 3. It's better, still wondering if I should get a better bow than this Glasser, if it would make a big difference?

Go to a music store and get yourself some bass rosin. :} i'm sure you'll sound better

Well, I am using The A.B, rosin from Barnes and Mullin, some English stuff, I think it's actually for violin.
I live in Southern California, near the coast. it's get a bit hot but not too bad.
I am a violinist, and I teach beginning strings classes, including bass. W/ French bow, I notice my thumb starts to be uncomfortable & hurt after playing a while. I try to keep it between the frog & the grip; do you have any suggestions? Or would I be better off going w/ German bow.

@stringendo1
how does it hurt? The tip or the muscle? Make sure the thumb is bent.

invece di ascoltarci ci facciamo tutte le seghe possibili su angolazioni e posture. ascoltarsi e ancora a scoltarsi, questa è l'unica maniera per progredire.
