I think the drawn figures are based on the drawings used by Sámi Shamans in their drums. All shamans made their own drums from start to finish and draw the pictures in them and so there is not a one way to read them. The legends were not often written down by Sámi people because of their travelling nature, but went down from generation to generation word to mouth as joikus and other fireside stories. Nowadays there are some who try to write it all down before they disappear with the old ones..

This song warms my soul. Thank you for posting!

@SuzanaGrau That's happening to me!!! 10 times and keep listening

@Sethae Actually, what has been having more effect on how the Sami people look today or how they looked like 100 years, is better nutrition. My great grandmother told my mother, how in the old times they lived all winter just by eating reindeer and fish. This caused lack of many vitamins, especially lack of vitamin-D, which caused malformation of bones (riisitauti, lankisaari lappalainen jne). Many of the Sami people have been mixed also with people from Bothnia, Northern Sweden and Norway.

@Laulanmad All of the paintings are based either on an old Lappish story, a legend or some actual happening. The Sami people´s history is very rich of tale telling, about nature spirits, encounters with powerful animals and animal spirits, about the Nature´s forces or about the shamans, withces and fascinating people and habits. If you google Andreas Alariesto, I´m sure you´ll find some pages about his works with the stories etc.

@LappQueen Wow!! That's fantastic!! Do you know how to read these paintings?

Yes it could be some form of getting used to thing. We adapt. But it's in my whole family. We all have under 35.5 body temperature.

The naivistic paintings in this video are from a Lappish artist Andreas Alariesto. His works depict the life of the Lappish village of Riesto, from where my grandfather´s family is from. Thank you for sharing! This is beautiful!
