Four thousands of years, architects and artists have followed the principle of the Golden Mean to make designs look just right. Build the Fibonacci gauge using our plans from page 13 of issue 173. Then, using the Shop Skills article on pages 14 and 15 of this same issue and the video links below, put this helpful tool to use in your next project design.

  • Very simple: Fibonacci serie is made of the previous number added to the next one, in the nature the growth is made adding the next segment or module to the previous one.

    (sorry for the poor english).

    best wishes

  • I think it's hilarious that he was so methodical about the fib gauge and how precise it is, then at the end he tell us to JUST ROUND UP the measurments. It's like he's saying, "Hey, strive for perfection, but sometimes, just say 'FUCK IT." A very wise man.

  • this is a great and simple example of the proper application of the golden proportions. thank you

  • so precise, yet he draws free hand. *shivers*

  • how did you make it?

  • Whether the golden ratio is more pleasing to the eyes or holds better stability than other works of construction or not, I would want one of those gauges just for my art.

  • This is an excellent simplified approach to design using the Fibonacci gauge. Originally from Wood Magazine's Website, this video has some audio distortion and volume problems. Don't let that deter you from learning how to use the "Golden Mean" in design. If you want to see the original version, go to Wood Magazine.com.

  • thank you for sharing. Greetings from Hamburg

  • @giorio7414

    i believe it's a compass instead.

  • free masons symbol there =0), good video!!

  • 1.4326618509... (to 1) is a much more pleasing proportion than the golden section. Sorry, I cannot reveal the secret method used to obtain this number.

  • @jamielo666 ... Well, if he really wanted precision, he would be working with CAD software...
