The author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Ghost Wars: The Secret History of CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001, Steve Coll discusses his most recent book, The Bin Ladens: An Arabian Family in the American Century. Coll talks to Leonard Lopate, host of WNYC's The Leonard Lopate Show.
Sources say that they were protected by the Saudi government for fear of endangerment. The process was carried out by Richard Clarke who was working with the Bush Administration. He claims that the Bin Ladens were simply removed as an agreement between the governments for protection of the family, much like when Americans are removed from other countries when American lives are threatened, or there has been a major catastrophe. This is common practice between governments of allied nations.

Please, does anyone have a reason that members of Bin Laden's family, who lived in the US on 9-11-2001, were gathered and flown from the country within a day or so, when all other flights were cancelled?
