The weird cancel is called drifting. Online the game doesn't track it so when you drift you 'vanish'.
Its a good way to avoid bladers.

Hey tieltavisvt, I tried 2nd staging, but I can perform it extremely rarely, because I can't figure out how I'm exactly doing it. Could you please explain to me in detail how to do it, I really want to learn how to do it more often. I play this game on ps3 and use the ps3's controller of coarse, just letting you know in case that's any problem.

There are other tutorials out there that go into detail about 2nd staging, and they even have footage of how to use the controller. That's probably what you need to see. The xbox and ps3 operation are the same. This one I find the most useful:
