@darkdestroyer64 Oh please don't think I was attacking you! Yeah I understand. I realised after I posted what I did that various accents can change what is easier to understand etc. PS I Like the Northumbrian accent!!! :-) Happy Dx'ing... I'm thinking of going out portable tomorrow somewhere..but it's winter here and freezing!!

Why do Amatuers continue to make up their own phonetic alphabet on air? "Germany" & "Victoria" are not correct phonetics. "G" is GOLF & "V" is VICTOR. Isn't it just as easy to learn the correct NATO internationally recognised phonetics? Especially if conditions are bad it can be extremely hard to work out what the other party is saying if they are making up their own phonetics. Phonetics are an international standard & are supposed to be easy for non English speakers to hear & understand.

@craig3008 Hi Craig , i understand what you're saying but unfortunately its not as clear cut as you would like it to be. I come from a part of the UK that have very strong accents (Geordie) , i would imagine you can understand what i'm saying on air but after 18 years of dxing i can assure you 70% of the people i work around the world can understand Germany and Victoria much easier than Golf and Victor in my Geordie/Northumbrian accent. I have tried both.
Thanks for the comment though.
