Sounds like EXACTLY what Ive watched happen to the USA in my lifetime. It sure aint the country I grew up in and loved as a youth. Its all about the MONEY now. (just look at POLITICS)......Its a PITTY to see when the Land of the FREE, turns out to be nothin but a FREE FOR ALL.........Sad but TRUE!

This is really the State of Affairs 2008--
I just saw Del sing this in a meadow in SF

It was daring for Del to release this song and, as you say, events have proved he, and John H., were right. Glad you got to see it live! I think John gave this song to Mr. McCoury because he knew Del would know what to do with it and when; and John was right in that too. Can't help but be reminded of Col. David Crockett whenever I see Mr. McCoury. ("These words I leave to men who live when I am dead: First; make sure you're right, then go ahead." Davy Crocket)

I love this song. :D

The song was written by John Herald, not 'Herold.'
It is also misspelled on Del McCoury's CD as well.
John Herald was an original member of the Greenbriar Boys. McCoury's version is pretty much note-for-note as John recorded it shortly before he died.
Perhaps by spelling John's name correctly, more people can enjoy his songs.
Well, it sure right on the mark for the times. I congratulate the band on their courage in not only releasing it but spotlighting it! Always respected the McCourys big time though. At the reunion, as with most family reunions I think, at Delfest, one could just sense the decency and intelligence of this clan!

WOW! John taught me to spell C-H-I-C-K-E-N, but not his own name. Thanks for the good info. Soon as I saw it I knew you were right!
