these fuckin General Practitioners are fucking terrible... i have Dp/Dr and my doctor basicly told to either take anti depressants, or just live with it.... fuckin douchbag
there so quick to write you a prescription to shit and get you out of there office.
All you can do is educate the Dr.s that don't know. A psychiatrist should know many don't. I have given my Psych Numb to watch-he didn't in a year's time and Feeling Unreal to read-he didn't read it. I diagnosed my self in '97 after five years of not knowing, a psych agreed with what I have. No internet for me then I felt very alone and was stunned when I first found out how many people have it.
I'm sorry to hear you had this experience but as you have probably worked out already it is not uncommon. I tried to explain depersonalisation to my GP and he started asksing me if I thought I was Jesus or if I thought the TV was talking to me. I told him I dont have delusions or scizophrenia(sorry if that is incorrect spelling). It is very hard to get people to understand this condition.
Yeah doctors really don't like it you try to tell them about what they should know or 'self-diagnosis'. I know this personally. I went to the doctor in July with info already printed out and told the 'dr.' that that's what I thought I had. She was obviously irritated and told me that I was 'just depressed' and needed to pull myself up by my bootstraps. True story. Needless to say, I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. 9 months later.
I think many doctors are very conventional and have small paradigms that they instinctually seek to protect. I think I see a similarity with many different DP people. It seems to me that they are all deeper in both their values and intuitive intelligence. I think the marijuana use allows subconscious things to take precedence over the conscious ego. As if to disable conscious compulsions and allow a more real life based off more congruency to inner ideals the chance to emerge.
You gotta love those lazy doctors that dont give a shit/dont want to learn. And I agree that he probably felt threatened by you knowing more than him. But he should have taken that as an opportunity to learn, listen and be a doctor, not an ass. Sorry you had to go through that.
what was the reason for your appointment with this doctor? if you have a diagnosis, you should be seeing a psychiatrist and/or therapist.. of course gp's arent going to help. i know it sucks and i dont mean to be harsh but that's just how it is.. most psychiatrists don't know nearly enough about dpd, you cant expect the gp's to know anything at all. you need to see a real psych doctor who stays on top of the latest research and actually wants to help.
@ErenSonmez don't ever take anti-depressants, they do more harm than good, and one of the millions of side-effects: DP!!!
Trust me, I've never taken any medication at all, and I got rid of DP, so tell your GP to fuck off from me, ok?
