I don't think think it was either of them. The fact that it was written by Curtis Mayfield and was released on his Mayfield label in 1963 by the Fascinations leads me to believe their version came first. It's not a bad version by the Fascinations, but I still prefer either the Orlons or Jan Bradley.
The Orlons were hot. Sweet and great voices. Lot's of very cool hits.
