Myxine Glutinosa also known as the Hagfish makes a slime to protect itself. See Tim get grossed out as he inspects the slime that this jawless fish secretes

  • Hey relax - I am a biologist and teacher.I didn't harm the eels and in fact they are alive and well in my tank right now. I gently poured them onto a moist substrate so that people could get a better look at them, and learn. :) If you want to feel badly, look at all the dead bugs on your car's grill or windshield.... did they have to die? Next time walk to work or the mall.

  • they taste good?

  • @arnab1021976 oh I love seeing ignorant people like you. The hagfish secrete the slime from the glands at their sides when they are touched, moved, startled or bitten. The slime works as a defense because it makes the water in the attacking fish's mouth and gills turn to slime. The hagfish is not necessarily harmed to get that slime. THE HAGFISH CAN SURVIVE OUT ON LAND FOR A WHILE thanks to the slime. Also, science works that way. People are dissected as well. Stop trying to sound cool on the web.
