Karen Landes and I encounter a few Kea (alpine parrots) in Arthur's Pass National Park on the south island of New Zealand. They have no fear of humans and, for some reason, love to eat the rubber parts right off your car.
I'm guessing that's a hire car. These could be a real issue for me. I have a convertible, and I live in the South Island. Have only come across them once.
