I have a son who has never hit me and I don't hit him. It really doesn't seem to be that hard. If your kid is hitting you hitting them back is not going to fix the problem.

yeah, but you're missing the point aotearoastu. Smacking isn't the same as hitting; that's why we have a different word for it. Some parents do need a backstop - when timeout, treats-removal, etc have failed, they can give their child a smack, using reasonable force - in the circumstances, of course. And no loving parent enjoys it - they do it because they love their children.

headlessrd, I respect your right to an opinion, but please, I need you to realize that I was not being frivolous when I mentioned MMP's purpose. It was designed by the allies after WW2 to destabilize Germany and Italy and prevent them from ever again rising to power by using statistics to over-prioritize radical and minority views. FPP is raw democracy in it's most unadulterated form. Also, I don't know what polls you get your stats from, but they sure as heck ain't accurate! VOTE NO!

I think you may be mistaken there,

FPP was specifically designed not to represent the majority,

MMP allows proportional representation so everyone is represented in parliament.

Barnardos, Plunket, Unicef, Save the Children and 70 other NGOs all support the amendment and a YES VOTE in the upcoming referendum.

Latest polls show 30% were against the law change and no parent has so far been prosecuted for smacking a kid, and now kids have equal rights ti you or i.

Aotearoastu, Sue Bradford was nothing more than a list MP who was NEVER voted in to government. She only ever got in as a statistical quirk of the MMP system, a system that was DESIGNED to cause political instability to keep societies down-trodden and oppressed after WW2. She has no respect for the opinion of the public, and no respect for the very concept of democracy. Her bill is widely regarded as poorly written trash, and only serves to punish everyday parents, not criminals. VOTE NO!!!
