SW Rebuild - Part 3 - New Protein Skimmer

The next new addition is a new protein skimmer. I had been using a Coralife Superskimmer 220 - and I was happy with it for the first two months or so, but then it developed a leak at the flow control knob, which prevented me from using it as a hang on tank skimmer. I had an opportunity to get a MyReefCreations MR-2 protein skimmer. I did some research and read great things about it. It will be more hassle to setup at first, but it should be a better skimmer in the long run as it can be upgraded. I will be posting another video on 'Prepping the skimmer' once the new pump arrives.

Is your super skimmer working? Or is it having the same problems mine did? I only ask because, I would hate to see you get rid of a skimmer that is actually working for you now. In my case it didn't, but I know that there are many people who are happy with theirs. If you do decide to replace yours, I suggest checking craigslist. You would be amazed at the deals you can find there - especially in this economy. Keep me posted!

You know, I still have it. I have a good relationship with the dealer so I should be able to get it replaced. I was thinking about keeping it on hand as a backup. I think instead, I will get it replaced and then give the new one back to my LFS. Maybe I will get store credit or something. Good question though :)

Mine doesn't leak from the knob, it over flows the collection cup everyday, im tired of it. when i get a new one i'll let you know how it's making out.
