I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Eric Johnson and discuss his career in Wilderness Medicine. Dr. Johnson is a past president of the Wilderness Medical Society and spent three months at the Everest Base Camp Clinic this year. In this interview, Dr. Johnson discusses how he got into Wilderness Medicine, how others can get involved, and his thoughts on our upcoming Medical Fusion conference. More information on our events can be found at www.ExpedMed.org and www.MedFusionConf.org .
I'm an EMT-B with 40 yrs of trigger time in the mountains, and recently took a SOLO course on medical first response. I learned a lot. As our instructor noted, the ambulance is a supermarket, and we get used to having everything we want, when we want it. We also have pt. transport times between 15 and 25 minutes, to our Level 1 Trauma Center. The course opened my eyes. I want to learn more.
