PLEASE READ: this is live, NOT a studio version. (Lyrics below) I had to do some mixing, to get rid of audience clapping, some of the speech (though I couldn't get rid of all of it, so showed good ole Reyer during that part- lol) and other things I couldn't get rid of so just tried to make it fit. I'm sorry the audio isn't greatest quality, but it's the best I could find.

contest - emotion: helplessness/ despair

Story: The three women who love/work for/ know Erik know also that life cannot continue the way it has and plead for help in their darkest hour ("Sanctus Espiritus" is Latin for Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost). They come to realize there is only one way and one person who can break through and end the misery of past and present for all of them, including Erik and especially for Erik. This is told in Christine, M. Giry, and Meg's POVs. Also, the mention of the "beast" in the song (for my vid) is metaphorical, not pertaining to Erik in any way - but to the hurt, revenge, anger, even fear (of people being different) etc that causes people to lash out and hurt others.

Clip information inside vid. Please, if you like what you see, support the artists who made the music and movie. Thank you!

Our Solemn Hour by Within Temptation

Sanctus Espiritus!
Sanctus Espiritus!
Sanctus Espiritus!

In my darkest hours
I could not foresee
That the tide could turn so fast to this degree
Can't believe my eyes
How can you be so blind?
Is the heart of stone, no empathy inside?

Time keeps on slipping away and we haven't learned
So in the end now what have we gained?

Sanctus Espiritus! redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus! insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus! is this what we deserve?
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

Are they themselves to blame
The misery, the pain?
Didn't we let go?
Allowed it, let it grow
If we can't restrain
The beast which dwells inside
It will find its way somehow, somewhere in time

Will we remember all of the suffering
`Cause if we fail it will be in vain

Sanctus Espiritus, redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus, insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus, is this what we deserve?
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

Sanctus Espiritus!
Sanctus Espiritus!

Sanctus Espiritus! redeem us from our solemn hour
Sanctus Espiritus! insanity is all around us
Sanctus Espiritus! is this what we deserve?
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

Sanctus Espiritus! redeem us from our solemn hour (solemn hour!)
Sanctus Espiritus! insanity is all around us (all around us!)
Sanctus Espiritus! is this what we deserve?
Can we break free from chains of never-ending agony?

  • Wow, what an incredible complimation. I was researching all the songs from Within Temptation and came upon this one. I'm not sure what the main part where it indicated Santus Espiritus...But I can look it up. Maybe a saintful spirit. I'm sorry I should know this. I did take some French which isn't far removed from Latin. Anyway, wonderful video. Just wanted to let you know I am trying to make my way through yours.

  • @emptyvoices31 - I have no idea why I didn't get the notice of your comment! But thank you!! :) I'm slowly making my way through my WT list of songs to do (almost all of them! lol)- look for Truth Beneath the Rose next. I've been working on it all week and am more than halfway finished. :) And Sanctus Espiritus is Latin for Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost- (I looked it up before making the vid when I was compiling the info for the lyrics to figure out what clips to use. :))

  • Sanctus Espirtus! We demons run on solar power! xD Just kidding. <3

  • @EvanescentWoodNymph - hahaha- you are such a nut. But it wouldn't be solar power- because they are of the dark, so they wouldn't draw from the light. ;-) (go ahead, hit me now...) *snork*

  • Oh my gosh, you're a genius! I just got this song recommended to me by a friend, and I just loved it. Then I saw this....wow. The first part blew me away from the start. Your version of Phantom scared me to death, which was just perfect! Thank you for doing this!

  • @twiwonder - Thank you so much! :) And you're welcome. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Within Temptation does have some of the best music- especially for Phantom! Have a Merry Christmas! :D
