White Knight was starboard with right of way JoAnn tacked onto port and was returning to the line. Appears White Knight thought JoAnn would continue turning and tried to avoid contact with her by going to weather at the last minute. JoAnn broke was in the wrong and had not right of way.and is responsible for damages.
I heard no communication on these boats until it was almost too late. The offending boat should have hailed White Knight to Hold Course, and should have ducked. But because there was no communication. White night's move to avoid collision may have actually caused the collision, if you see my note below.
White knight (WK) turned to windward, which pushed his stern towards the boat that hit him. You'll notice the boat hit him near the stern, almost clear. Soon after he turned to windward, should then quickly turned down swinging his stern away from the offending boat. He might have saved the day. In any case it is not WK's fault. The offending boat, tacked on to WK, Offending boat on Port, while WK on starboard. But all boats should avoid a collation. White Knights move caused the Collision.
What do you guys think would have happened if White Knight had kept going straight on starboard? It really looks like its stern came around as it pointed up. I think JoAnn might have been able to duck if White Knight had kept going.
