Welcome to another DIY Aquarium Video, This video follows the previous ACF video and shows you step by step how I have set up my Fluval 205 for better filtration.

The media I am making reference to can be purchased from any Bunnings Warehouse in the cleaning section. Please note that these floor cleaning attachments have no cleaning chemicals on them and are safe to use. More or less they are a polyester fibre pad, simular to those used for aquariums. Reason behind using these is they are cheaper than the LFS and can be reused over and over.

Enjoy the Video and please feel free to ask any questions on anything about aqauriums.

  • What are your thoughts on using stockings as a filter medium?

  • @SparrowFC If you can make it work, I see no problem. Maybe give them a good wash before using them though, especially if they've had a previous owner. Once they clog, you could throw them out and get another set, if they're cheap. Were you going to use them like a micron sock? If so, you could probably use a couple of pairs inside one another to create a finer filter medium. Good luck and let me know how it goes if you decide to use them.

  • how big is your tank?

  • @harry5573 approx 40 us gallons

  • How's the modification working out for you? Is the media holding together like you expected?

  • @kfor714 Mods working fine, media is lasting a lot longer than the orginal/previous media.

  • Love your commentary, "like all aquarium cabinets its full of sh*t" lmao my thoughts exactly I have the same problem.

  • last time I went the cheap way all my fish died. I bought some furnace filter, it was blue and 24x48 I don't know if it was because of the color but my amonia sky rocketed through the roof so becareful with that.

  • the 05 series are great filters

  • @frank1971ification I would say the 405 would be good for 3 large turtles, however the size of the filter you should get also depends on the size of your tank. Get the biggest filter you can afford, making a large investment in your filter now will save you buying another, bigger filter later. Perhaps even look at a wet/dry sump filter if the turtles are fairly large.
