It's all subjective. Walter Gibbons has a distinct remix style that is expressed in its most pure and compelling form on this particular recording. Rough splices aside, this edit is among my all-time favorites.
@drwhatson the break at 4.58 is clumsy indeed but it's not W.Gibbons fault. His original mix is 14' long and it was hastily and clumsily edited to a 6'54" version. The real original can only be found on a special DJ acetate which is as rare as hen's teeth.
It seems to me that many Americans preferred their Disco tracks either as instrumentals or remixed with a long boring instrumental intro. Personally, I can't see how this improves on the original 12" mix, Walter Gibbons or no Walter Gibbons... The break @4.58 is downright clumsy IMO. (Or maybe just putting his name on the label makes a difference somehow?) Walter Gibbons isn't the star here - it's Gladys Knight!

@WonderBOnTheOne OK, right - but I somehow don't imagine myself dancing to one track for 14 minutes, even back then! :-) Ah well...

@sumcas2000 I am aware of that, but my comments still stand. There are good remixes and mediocre ones, whatever the reputation of the DJ.

@drwhatson intros and long extended play, breakdowns etc. were meant for dj;s for better sequencing, editing and dubbing.
