How do wrongly get credit exactly? They commercialized jazz music and brought it to the attention of the masses. You could argue who was first, who was better, etc.... but give a little credit where its due. They toured all over the US and Europe and had the brains, business savvy, and skills to do it. No business manager, no big record label, no advertising,....quite a feat for the time when you think about it.

The ODJB wrongly received too much credit. Yes they were the first to record, but they sort of parachuted in on the success of so many black N.O. bands who did it far better. A more definitive recording, from 1923, would be King Oliver's sessions in Chicago... check that out. Far more authentic & improvisatory.
