The Stony Brook University baseball team played its first home game at the new Joe Nathan Field on Friday, May 20, 2011. The Seawolves defeated Albany to finish first in the America East Conference standings, earning the right to host the conference tournament at Joe Nathan Field May 25-28. Stony Brook has won two conference championships in the last three years. The field is named for SBU alumnus Joe Nathan, an All-Star relief pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, who donated $500,000 to build the new baseball facility at Stony Brook.
