This is a new and unique video that you will find nowhere else only here on youtube. It is a mix of two cuts from John Denver's 1971 album, "Poems, Prayers & Promises, the poem, "The box" and the song, "Let it be" to make a new third song which adds new strength to John's message of peace. When it comes to these two cuts, I hope people agree with me that these two cuts when mixed together truely make a third song where the total is greater than the sum of its parts. John was a man of peace and this video carries his message of peace anew .

Some may find it difficult to believe that my political views are conservative not liberal. But, being conservative does not preclude wanting world peace. Conservatives as much as anyone want world peace. Conservatives just believe that until the time comes when wisdom is acheived world wide...peace is best achieved and secured by protecting "the box" via strength and vigiliance rather than with just hopes and desires and decrees... so that the rogue nations, dictators and despots of the world are not temped to open the Box called war.

Here are some points of possible interest of how this music video came to be. The first picture of a bombed out city in the video is that of Darmstadt Germany just after WWII. I serendipitously came across this picture on the internet as I was searching for pictures to use in the video. Darmstadt was the city I happened to have been stationed in, in 1971 while serving in the USAF. It was there I first heard John Denver's new album, "Poems, Prayers & Promises." it was in Darmstadt I first thought the two cuts, "The box" and, "Let it be" from John's album belonged together. Darmstadt is where I mixed the two cuts together for the first time on a reel to reel tape recorder.

This memorial day 2009, I once again come across the audio mix I had previously made, "The box, Let it be" which I had by then made into a cd of for personal use and which I also had stored in my computer some years ago.

For no particular reason this memorial day I decided to take this music up one more time and to make it into a music video and put it on youtube to share John's message as I heard in my head all those many years ago. Why now? I have no idea but, God know this world could certainly use more peace.

This mix of music has just stayed with me over the years. It has called to me from time to time over the years to take it up as technology has changed. I guess this time it was to be shared with the world via youtube.

If you like the video I ask that you please leave the state or country you are from in the comment section and any comment if you would like as well. I believe people will find it interesting to see what states and or countries John's spirit and message reaches 12 years after his passing. I know I will.

  • VOTE!!!!

  • Hey, this was JD's wisdom. Are we going to forget to vote, in our NEXT election?

  • @BlueiiiedLady John would be sad that we haven't advanced more in the first quarter of the 21st century, but I think he would also hold on to the hope that people might still learn, and at least in many cities here in the U.S. conservation in the form of recycling has taken more root. We're learning, it's just so slow that it can be depressing. If we just hang on do our part, and keep a bit of faith in humanity somday John's dream and many others will become a reality.

  • I have been looking for "The Box" on YouTube for quite a while. Thank you for posting this beautiful, but sad piece by JD. Will we ever learn?????????? John would be so disappointed that we have not moved forward and man has not learned to live in peace.

A long time John Denver fan from Florida.

  • You really ruined the dark, sad feeling of the poem, by using a really inappropriate song for an effect completely opposite of its intention. I can hear poor John turning in his grave.

  • beautifully sad... thanks for taking the time to share it with everyone :D

  • This deserves so many more views than what it has! Absoltely beautiful, thank you for posting!

  • this is the harsh reality of what the world is like, i hope and pray that someday there will be peace.

  • WOW Its the Truth
