I don't think they were sunni. Because there is no shia or sunni in the Quran.

I think what brother Qadhi means is that the sunni are the ones who don't make bid'ahs.

Shia have invented many things and atributed those things to Allah. That is pure disbelieve.

In reference to the ahlul bayt (as): "Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! and to purify you a (thorough) purifying." (Quran, 33:33)

Oh btw, al-hussain (as) did not want the khilafah because of a desire to be known, he wanted to stand against oppression.... it is true, however, that al-hassan (as) signed a peace-treaty with muawaiyah. The mahdi (peace be upon him) was born pious and will always remain pious...

It's amazing how sunni and shia brothers and sisters have so much in common as far as beliefs are concerned, namely, with respect to the Mahdi (as). I pray for more unity between sunnis and shias and that we are not disunited because of political reasons... as the prophet (pbuh) wanted his ummah to be united as one!

I'm a shia.. and I just listened to this lecture! He stated that sunnis believe that the mahdi (as) will come from the progeny of al-hassan (as) and according to the twelver shias, he will come from the progeny of al-hussain (as). However, we believe that the mahdi (as) will come from the progeny of hussain (as) whose son will be married to the daugther of al-hassan (as), so technically the mahdi (as) comes from both al-hassan (as) and al-hussain (as)...
