  • Can you/ have you posted all the songs from Thunderbox? I want to hear 'Don't Worry Be Happy' again, but when i look for it all I find is the Bobby Ferrin song of the same name!

  • Sorry about the late reply. Thunderbox is a tricky one - youtube likes to remove/reject the songs off that album. I finally managed to upload Don't Worry Be Happy though!

  • Marriott was incredible ! I like this version the best out of anyone else who recorded it.

Leave it to Steve to make a slow rough and tumble version- Now thats a real Rock-n- Roll sound !

  • I thought The Beatles did a beautiful version of this but once again Steve stamps his own mark thoroughly, distinctively and touches my soul with his voice and this rendition. Many thanks the seeker23 - Alison

  • @minimadalison

Steve had a great voice, bur he sometimes went to the extremes trying to sing like black man. This was sometimes funny indeed.

In this particular case i give my voice to John's interpretation: accurate, passionate, but with retained sense of proportion - tasteful.

I believe that's what makes somebody being an artist.

  • Soul (sol) - (n, s):

    1. In music, the expression of heartfelt or powerful emotion.

    2. This song.

  • So glad to find this treasure, thanks so much for sharing it! I can't believe that hardly anyone has heard this version...I had Thunderbox on vinyl back when it was first released...it doesn't get any better than this.

  • @rhino7 VeeJay was an American independent label based in Chicago (they were also the Four Seasons' original label), not an EMI subsidiary, though they may have made deals with EMI to release VeeJay sides in England. They got to release a couple of Beatles singles in 1963 because Epstein, dismayed that Capitol passed on the Beatles the first time around, made independent deals with them and with Swan for early U.S. releases. Capitol didn't get wise until December 1963. VeeJay died in 1964.

  • I remember thinking when this came out---nice try, Steve, but the Beatles nailed the definitive version. It was a perfect song for Marriott to cover, but Humble Pie by this time wasn't even close to the right band to do it.

  • this version = No. God no.

  • weten ju;llie ook op welke cd dit nummer staat?

  • mmm mmm him

  • wist niet dat dit ook door Steve werd gezongen; koude rillingen!

    Love ye.

  • Minimadalison - I concur about "Anna". I first heard The Beatles version way back on the VeeJay label which was (if I'm not mistaken) before they signed with Capitol Records. Here again if not mistaken VeeJay was a subsidary of London's EMI Recording Company, That Beatles had their first recording, that Brian Epstien had gotten them through George Martin. Now as you said good'ol Steve Marriott (God rest is soul) nailed Anna with a good clean version, indeed.
