Guys can be complete idiots. I just don't know why he would do such a thing. Talk with your friends about what happened, I'm sure they have a better idea of what may happen. But whatever happens, just know that You Will Get Through This. Your friends and family are here for you and so am I.

First off, I'm sorry to hear about the break up. There are a few ways to see what he did. First, like you pointed out, he may not have loved you and perhaps found someone else who he felt a stronger attraction to. 2nd, the only thing that can conker love another love. I don't know why he would say that terrible line "let's just be friends", but it sounds like he really wanted to get out of it, regardless how it hurt you.
