An electrifying performance at R.A. Fountain General Store. The guitarist in this take, Johnny Batchelor, died unexpectedly on Jan. 4, 2007. He was loved and will be missed. Fiddler Les Sandy played guitar with Bill Monroe, and played the comedic character Uncle Puny. Frank Harrison is an eastern Carolina mandolin legend.

  • did johnny play with his daughter who picked the mandolin? I think i know who you're talking about if that's him. Nice feller, really hate to hear that.

  • Yep, that's Johhny. We still can't believe it ourselves. But daughter Lindsay, who is a *killer* mandolin player, is continuing the family tradition -- she's alreaby played at R.A. Fountain since Johnny passed -- and I hear the younger daughter Brooke has taken up bass. Johnny left those girls well equipped to go forward. There's talent in that Batchelor gene pool.

  • Was this at the Cook Shack?

  • R.A. Fountain General Store in Fountain, NC.
