Typical upcountry pagoda festival at Shwe Sar-Yan Paya near Mandalay, Burma, before it got busy on the full moon of Dabaung in early March 2006. It is located upon the north bank of River Myit Nge aka Dohttawaddy, both meaning Little River in comparison with the Irrawaddy or Great River, of which it is a tributary entering at Ava.
Enjoy a short river cruise in a hnget or sampan "when the water is small", and a leisurely stroll among makeshift stalls and shops selling traditional goods from snacks and groceries to bamboo and palm leaf toys and hardware implements.
A perambulation clockwise in the customary manner inside the temple also gave you a view of rows of shops outside where village traders from around the area stayed with their families, and traditional forms of transport such as pony carts and bullock carts were still much in evidence too.
Excellent video. Thanks for uploading.
