Tien Shan Pai as performed by students at the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi Center in Audubon, PA.

NOTE: The Praying Mantis form Beng Bu (Crushing Step) shown at :59 is not technically part of the Tien Shan Pai curriculum, but is taught as a supplementary form at the school.

  • Nice vid

  • Fuck tien shan pai, wing chun is probably by far more effective.

  • The guy closest to the camera looks like CG animation.

  • Sparring makes the best fighter the fastest but with injuries. Forms can build incredible foundation, but many think fancy moves have some magical power.I've seen students who, after having learned some forms, could execute certain throws and other moves IF the forms were taught correctly that others weren't hardly capable of. The ability to do blocks and hits comes from thousands of attempts at making good blocks and hits. Leg work cannot be taught while sparring. The key is to do both, safely.

  • @mooki69 that's a pretty good assessment. if you don't spar, then it's bullshit. if you spar but don't make use of the stuff in your forms or drills, then it's bullshit.

the only part to be careful of, is whether it's the style or the instructor. from experience i'd say some styles are bullshit, and almost all instructors are morons.

  • nice add

  • This pretty much sums up my experience with Tien Shan Pai and all kung fu. All bullshit forms with barely any sparring. And when we would spar it was some bullshit patty cake with kicks.

  • grandmaster Wang taught this under the name of coiling dragon walking stick. it is a basic saber form converted to stick. At Willy Lin's school, we learned it as a stick form first and later on as a fundemental saber form.

  • Thats weird... the broad sword I saw the younger kids doing is the form I am learning right now except in my class we learn in with a short staff

  • very good observation - remember also that Master Brown had class mates as when he was trainig so there are schools associated with Tien Shen Pai in Ohio and other locales

BTW too am a Shifu under Master Brown since 1985
