Just a quick update of some of my new goodies, and a preview of some of the videos that will be coming up soon on my channel. I'm putting my vintage Sony Digital8 camcorder to good use, and it is working flawlessly! And remember "Hit Clips" from Tiger Electronics? If there is enough interest, I'll make a full video on that, too. So stay tuned to the VWestlife channel, as well as to my music channel: http://www.youtube.com/vwest1ife And thanks for all your support!

  • Do you know how many Hit Clips were ever made? I'm trying to get all of them, I have around 30 now. They all have numbers on the back, and the highest number is 122, so I know there must be more than that. I loved seeing your collection though :)

  • @princess9397 There are a few web sites which attempt to list the Hit Clips that were released, but the format really didn't have enough shelf life to amass a large collection of songs, especially if you consider the later "Hit Discs" to be in a separate category.

  • i rember thes when i was in first grade, i was going to buy one but i red the back of it and realised that it only plays a 30 second segment of a song. if the made full length songs they would of been more popular

  • The original Hit Clips play a 1-minute "Micro Mix" of the songs. The later version increased the playing time to 2 minutes... but still not enough to fit most songs in their entirety.

  • I don't know if the Hit Clips are available anymore, but I remember seeing them on the Tiger website in early 2004. Personally I wouldn't call them an ancestor to the iPod, even though they may have come out just before the iPod, there were other MP3 players that were much more capable than the Hit Clips products. Do I see a picture of some tupe of portable stereo on the back of the Hit Clips package?

  • I should've called it the "ancestor of the iPod Shuffle," as it is about the same size and weight. Yes, there were portable MP3 players on the market before the (regular) iPod, but they were all much larger and heavier than this.

  • The bad thing about these was they only play like 60 or 30 sec worth of songs! XD

  • @batterymaker

i'd like to hack those and rip the audio file thats played. oh and i've hooked these to my 300 watt stereo. lol lo-fi mono grainy sound amplified by 300 watts. the hitclips chips actually had decent bass for a chip but I dunno why they cut off the bass it doesnt take up that much room. battery life maybe. theres this hitclips boombox powered by 3AAA batteries, I have one

  • I am uploading a video right now of my collection of hitclips I have both the clips and the disc ones. check my channel in about an hour or next time you log on it should be in your subscriptions if you are subbed to me. Enjoy.

  • I have a Hit Clips player myself, its the boombox which dates back to 2001 and as of today it STILL works! All I have for the actual cartridges are two of them which are Breathe by Faith Hill and There You Go by Pink. I also have an add on for the system which is the FM tuner and by the way it sounds far better than the cartridges. The reception is a bit worse than normal tuners but its quite usable even where I live in a rural area.

  • I have the disc hitclips too maybe ill do a video on my hitclips. I do believe that we have the technology to put a full song on a chip like this but its probably very expensive to do so. I have this x-cuse box thingy and it had a full 10 minutes of audio on it in 10, 1 min audio clips. you can fit a couple of songs on a chip like that in decent quality so it is possible but not practical.

  • ive actually hacked most of my hitclips to make them louder. you just open up the player and theres a tiny SM resistor between the clip connectors and the earphone, remove it and replace with a small blob of solder and the audio will be much louder.

  • I remember when Hit Clips came out and how I thought I was awesome because I had a Mini-Disc recorder/player. I thought was infinitely more cutting edge. Now I have an iPod. It may not be cutting edge, but at least it's a format that's still supported! XD

  • Wow I remember those Hit Clips from when I was in 1st grade. It brings back so many memories. But they were garbage.
