What are the symptoms of a bad ballast? Here's what I'm experiencing:
The TV turns on no problem. It stays on for about 3 minutes then shuts off (with chime) and 3 LED's in the front are flashing. I'm not sure if it 's the bulb, the ballast.. etc (so many probs) I just had the color wheel replaced though, so it's good. (no color wheel symptoms like crazy colors on screen).
The lamp appears bright, but sometimes just a hint dim. I always assumed a bad bulb just wouldn't turn on at all.

Sounds like u need to replace the flux capacitor

ballast dont makes sound, color wheel lose lubrication and makes that sound.

lb,,samething,,bulbdoes not light,,old bulb looked new,,so,,i took out color wheel,,the smallelectric board was brown,burnt,,color weel was sqeeking,,im hoping its not ballsat,but its easy to replace,,so,im going to replace it also,,i bought this tv for 25 bucks,goodwill,,lookes new,,51inch,dlp,1-080p,,so,its worth the fix,,is this the color wheel?? -
my samsung makes the exact sound,,bulb does not turn on,,bought new bulb,,doesnt turn on,,but lights do turn on,,red,green,,this is the sound,,,is it the color wheel???or ballast??help me out,,,thnx

My 56" inch SAMSUNG TV is not working now either even after putting in a new lamp bulb. I was told to be sure the little blue switch button was down. I tried it up and then down and still nothing. Then they told me its maybe "MAYBE" the ballast and another $90.16 cents for that NON RETURNABLE part alone was needed. I'm thinking the problem is I should have bought a FREAKING SONY.

It was the colorwheel. Bought one on Ebay and fixed the issue myself.
