This is Hammer Bash. Point of the game is to ramp up the power of your swing so you can get the rocket to the maximum height but once your rocket starts to fly there are obstacles that you will need to dodge along the way.

I remember this game. This event was my favorite. If I recall right... if you managed to reach the maximum distance with your rocket... didn't the background go all black and you encounter a sign saying "End of Space"?

That's correct. But you get to the end of the solar system and what I'm guessing is Pluto has a sign stuck in it.
