Mars Bar 11.6% Downsize

A classic of the chocolate world has been shrunk, Mars insists this is due to their concerns over portion size and related obesity.

The Mars Bar has dropped in size from 60g to 53g, making it 11.6% lighter, while 90 other chocolate products will also have their size reduced.

Mars Snack food Australia general manager Peter West said the move was a direct response to Australia's obesity debate and the company's bars had too many calories.
"Big food is an issue - the portion size that people are eating, whether (it's) the muffin you buy, or the cake, or when you go to a restaurant, the size of the plate in front of you," Mr West said.

"We want to make sure we sell our portions in the right size."

Mr West said the price of Mars Bars (from $1.70) had not decreased, although some of the company's other brands would be cheaper.

All of Mars' 90 products will be downsized, including Milky Way, Snickers, Maltesers and Twix.

@SN011GlobeTrot in the end there is no law against making a profit, and it's pretty obvious consumers don't really care if their portion sizes are reduced,,BUT are highly sensitive to price rises

@leokimvideo Yes indeed its clever work. 3 Musketters is also sold as a "double" bar package. Another example of clever downsizing is coffee. When I was a kid it was sold in one pound metal cans. Then Folgers got the idea to sell it in vaccumed sealed foil bags for 'freshness".  These bags only weighed 13 ounces, not 16,but cost the same.

It's life, and that's what happens. Yeah life sucks but oh well. Bread used to be 5 cents for a loaf, and eggs 10 cents a dozen. Prices eventually have to go up, or in this case, instead of raising the price, they just kept the price the same for slightly less food. It's the same principal, and if I had to choose 1, I would choose "less food/same price" over  "same amount/higher price".

Oh, I love mars. Its my favorite chocolate. If only they made giant bars like cadbury, and galaxy. This is a great video Leo, and will flick a switch in our minds. My dad said that they were giant when he was a kid, so It must have been happening drastically in England. Why Guys, do you have to downsize confectionary classics and flagship iconic products? i live in england and this has been happening for years they shrink the size up the price and tax when iwas a teen in the 90s a king size snikers (marathon) was 43p and was massive they have shrunk and shrunk since and now scrapped the king size in favor of the duo which is 2 small bars in 1even more of a ripp off !!!! FUCK YOU MARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
