@johnbresnik yeah, there's not many times that I can look up to be honest.
-
@Redflowers9 - the improvisation, the rhythm and the way he structures his chords (the voicing). But, what's even more amazing to me (as a piano player), is that he isn't looking at the keyboard most of the time.

@johnbresnik Thanks for the info, I've only heard a lot about Tatum although I've listened to many others and now you mention it, it did sound quite original. What makes you feel good about this type of music?
-
@Redflowers9 - Tatum was way ahead of his time and probably the most skilled jazz piano player (although Oscar Peterson had great skill and command of the keyboard), but I consider Garner the greatest "artist" -- to me, his approach was a work of art performed on the piano. And, he was a superb showman... he put on a great show.

@johnbresnik oh I would say Tatum is but otherwise you're spot on to me.

Haha!!! That's a great version from one of the masters!! They are great to watch

One of my very favorite Pianists. So brilliant, so nice! Who doesn't like "Lady is a Tramp" particularly done this way..... : )

El gran ERROLL GARNER virtuoso del piano y gigante del Jazz, honor a sus capacidades.-

It doesn't matter how rotten a day I've had, or how terrible I feel, when I listen to Erroll Garner play I suddenly want to jump up and start dancing. It's joyful and playful and utterly amazing. The angels may sing Mozart when they're on duty, but when they have a coffee break, they listen to Erroll play and dance for JOY!!
