In the spring of 1945, after surviving the Holocaust, Leon Weinstein spent six months bicycling across Poland in search of his daughter, Natalie. Years before, in a desperate attempt to save Natalie's life, Leon had left her on the steps of a police station in the hope that someone would take her in and hide her from the Nazis.
Leon passed away in December 2011, at the age of 101. In his own words, this is his story.
As a member of The "1939" Club, Leon generously shared his memories and stories with students and friends at Chapman University. His visionary endowment of the Leon and Sophie Weinstein Professorship in Holocaust History testifies to his remarkable generosity of spirit, while his work with the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education will continue to inspire students for generations to come.
To Leon and his family, we say: Thank you for telling us your story. We will not forget what happened. Shalom.
