The Saga continues and now there is one owlet left out of three from this nest. The last survivor I call HUGO is hurt and damaged but mom preens him today after she apparently attacked her own off-springs, killing one. Will HUGO survive?

  • You did a great job documenting all of this. Thank you. Lets hope they have better luck next year. I sure won't forget these little guys and all they went through in such a short time on the earth with us.

  • thank you...your group capture some really important videos as well as we all have learned a lot about nature from this nest. Net has to be better than their last 2.

  • I uploaded a new video to my photobucket site....in my last and final video of HUGO you can really see how sickly he was and that his health deteriorated significantly in a short period of time. This was video from before and after his last meal yesterday. Feel free to watch and post your comments here if you would like. I find them all very insightful.

  • It wasn't the mother that attacked him, it was another owl.

  • so I hear...interesting what has been going on..thanks for the comment

  • My goodness, so sad. I think it was because of the lack of food more than anything else. I feel so sorry for the chick.

  • He is still alive as of today April 9th but is his right side of his face, his eye and beak are hurt and damaged. Hopefully they will heal but who knows.

  • i feel bad for the mother X(

  • i am just wondering, if this thing happened within our limit, shall we interfer? shall we remove hugo from the nest and handfeeding hugo? or shall we just leave hugo alone and let him face what's his destiny would be? as a human being we took things from nature for granted, is it about time to help out the animals when it is within our power?

  • Of all the questions and inferences that we can conjure up, I have one ; WHY IN THE WORLD DID NO ONE STEP IN AND HELP THE OWL ?? I know, I know.....beacuse it's nature right, so you just sit there and watch. Did'nt have to end this way, whomever had the chance to do something......FAILED !!

  • omg it's nyra! =O

  • yeah, I don't think it was her, she looks like she's mourning.

  • I would think it was another owl and not the mother that attacked the young. I have burrowing owls that are nesting now, this is heart wrenching to see, so sad. But I just cannot see the parents doing this to their own young. If Barn Owls are anything like Burrowing Owls, they are usually very good parents. I think the parents were out hunting for them and another owl took advantage of them being left alone.
