I want this and Amazing Grace sung at my funeral. Abide With Me usually needs a choir but Harry totally does it justice.
God Bless You

Harry Secombe had a voice which could sing any song no matter what the content. Even when singing songs like this you could see in the eyes that the humour was being suppressed. He was like Spike Milligan, a man who had served his country at the price of his sanity. Taking a direct hit from a 88mm artillery shell does things to your mind. but in his case made him a major part of one of the greatest comedy acts of all time - The Goons.

I have always enjoyed listening to Sir Harry - especially when he sings the Lords Prayer - its very moving. And his role in the "The Goon Shows " were superb. I became a Goon fan was y back in the 1970` Todays kids wouldnt understnd their clever humour and double entendres. Too bad they dont know what they are missing. A great entertainer. Thanks for the memories.

Hate is a very strong word. Lazy English language skills?
I found Harry's 'Highway' tv show to be dull as ditchwater but I was a child when it was on TV and it was an adult show. As for Secombe's voice... His singing about his belief can bring me to tears and I have one of the most complicated and doubting Thomas but religious hearts you can imagine. The man was a talent, give him his due.
Hate?

So I will defend,

Each man as my friend.'

Just to show Sir Harry Secombe wasn't only a comedian but a wonderful and great tenor too. I quite agree with you obadiahoutreach. I only wish there was more live footage of him singing from his Sunday evening shows. He was a great friend of my father's too btw - along with others and my favourite hymn too so thanks for posting.
