When an old model of the world is no longer supported by the evidence, it is often hard to let go. So many people, especially the intelligent ones, try to rationalize the problems and contradictions and thereby clutter up the model more and more. I call this extra baggage "epicycles", as the concept of epicycles is the perfect example for how these rationalizations work and how long it can take for such a convoluted model to finally disappear.

Religion is such a model. When it first appeared on the scene, it was a great hypothesis with a powerful explanatory function and it stayed that way for millennia. Unfortunately for the concept of religion, data gathered over the last centuries more and more contradicts its tenets. That's why religious apologists have always a lot of work to do, reconciling religion with science. But like the epicycles, some day religion will have to disappear for mankind to progress.

  • So that's where you went. Great vid...if only I was an atheist.

  • Sorry for the delay. I was preoccupied over the weekend. Today I've finished this video on which I have been working for some time.

I'll get back to you and send you a PM as soon as I can, but I need some free time first and right now my girlfriend demands a little attention as well ;)

  • I suppose we can look at the life-cycles of other religions for comparison and assume an accelerated pace due to present population, information, and communication.

There are thousands of dead religions piled up. It's only a matter of time before the currently popular ones get added to the pile.

  • Before the invention of the TV or even the printing press, the New World Order needed a way to propagandize the people they were trying to control.

Think about how this was done, think conquering lands, no tv, no printing press, how did they (world empires) get all their people to think in unison to accomplish their agenda (take over the world) 4000 years ago?

  • I like the electronic voice

  • The content is actually great... But the electronic voice sucks...

The epicycles is a great starting point to explain religious craziness. But I have to disagree with you on the ground that religion can be abolished completely. Like rabies, even though we already have the cure (education, for religion case), it is still difficult to eliminate due to human's basic necessity to seek (spiritual) comfort...

  • Outstanding work!

  • Loved the last line.

    Excellent video

  • I'm not complaining- I just needed something to say so that I could get the first comment.
