  • VDH is amazing I love his works and cannot get enough of his literature.

  • It's unreasonable for people to think that the "best of the best" would ever enter politics...

Not true I think our politicians do a very good job and are the sort of people who in private industry would be the top of there profession and in many cases were before they entered politics. It is all to easy for people to claim some pseudo intellectualism by being overly cynical about politicians but they seldom think about how uniquely good we have in reference to geography and time.

  • "I think laughing should be suffice..."

    You're sure? No stoning, then?

"Should it be unreasonable for people who want the best of the best to run there country to wish the same fate for Sara Palin?"

It's unreasonable for people to think that the "best of the best" would ever enter politics in the first place...

"...the comment was meant to highlight the calibre of person that the USA once chose to be president."

They don't make 'em like they used to....

  • I think laughing should be suffice, in Australia Pauline Hanson our stupidest politician has been the butt of many jokes for many years and it put a welcome end to her brand of silliness. Should it be unreasonable for people who want the best of the best to run there country to wish the same fate for Sara Palin?

Agreed there is no chance of Thomas Jefferson seeing the state of the USA the comment was meant to highlight the calibre of person that the USA once chose to be president.

  • "...she should not be able to show her face in public with out people laughing at her."

Shouldn't she be stoned as well...?

"I would truly feel sorry for Thomas Jefferson if he was able to see the state of his country after all of these years."

Little chance of that happening...(slim to none, I should think...).

  • Mahmoud Ahmadinejad thinks the Holocaust never occurred.

Hugo Chavez believes the Haitian earthquake was caused by an American weapons test.

Thabo Mbeki, erstwhile president of South Africa, didn't think HIV caused AIDS.

    Lots of stupidity worldwide...

(In America, our dumbest politician is probably Corinne Brown, a Democratic Congresswoman from Florida...she makes Sarah Palin look like Leibniz.)

  • Part 2

I think the media and other politicians were too kind to her she should not be able to show her face in public with out people laughing at her. Remember it is her comments that made her look like a fool then she tried to back away from them which made her look like a coward. I think her even running in the presidential race is a sad indictment on a great country I would truly feel sorry for Thomas Jefferson if he was able to see the state of his country after all of these years.

  • Part 1

There are very few in the main stream parties but some independents get in like Pauline Hanson on raciest scare tactics campaigns. Remember she was not representing a fringe but was running for second in command. From what I have seen she thinks the world is 6000 years old that alone should disqualify her to be in charge of a school little lone the most powerful country on earth.

  • No, the American media's snobbery towards her was based--like yours--on her intelligence, or alleged lack thereof...

Hanson didn't share that attitude and furthermore appreciated what she managed to achieve on her own merits...

She is certainly no intellectual...but she was competent enough as governor of Alaska.

(If those of "too common mind" would be "dismissed in every political system besides the USA's," how come Australia has "dumb politicians"?)

  • It seems she was too common of mind rather than to common of upbringing. She would have been completely dismissed in every other political system other than the USAs whear it seems being of the people means belonging to the lower half of the IQ bracket. Evan our dumb politicians in Australia would tear strips off her in a debate as for Barack Obama it would be a horror show.
