Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is used to remove the fat deposits and loose skin that may form on the lower eyelids with age. Many factors, including heredity and sun damage, accelerate these changes. Younger people also elect to have this procedure done to eliminate puffiness of the eyes from congenital excess fatty tissue.

This procedure is performed to reduce puffiness and wrinkles in the lower eyelids. Fatty tissue is normally present in the space behind the eye and probably evolved to help cushion the eye in minor impacts. The barrier which keeps fat behind the eye can weaken, allowing fat to come forward into the lower eyelids.

This produces an aesthetically unpleasing fullness to the lower eyelids, frequently referred to as eyelid bags or bags under the eyes.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty may be performed through an incision under the eyelashes or an incision on the inside of the eyelid. Excess fat can be removed to reduce puffiness from either type of incision. If the surgery is performed through an external incision, excess skin can be removed as well, reducing lower eyelid wrinkles.

  • I want this surgery but I'm very skeptical about it, is it safe?

  • @NyaS92 Hello,

Every surgery has risks associated. When performed properly by a highly skilled surgeon, risks for lower blepharoplasty are greatly minimized and the procedure can yield excellent results. Excellent credentials are a must, and it is important to do your homework prior to choosing a surgeon. Thanks very much for the message, and please feel free to visit my website for before and after photos of lower blepharoplasty surgeries I have performed.

  • Doctor can you remove my frontal bossing from acromegaly with a eyelid incision?

  • @isisbenny404

    Hello,

You would need a craniofacial surgeon for this procedure. Thank you for the question.

  • very scary

  • @sugarbeaches O.O that's just SCARY

  • @Todoslosfritos hahahah!! now that's funny..!! I want this done but scared to death..

  • I had this done under local anesthesia, and wasn't given enough medication; it hurt terribly, but he was in a hurry and refused to give me more medication...The surgeon hurried through the procedure, and I was bleeding a week later and had to have the right eye resewed; I have a black eye a month and a half later, and the eyes are uneven. Watching this, I see that 1) I perhaps should have opted for general, or 2) he really, really should have deadened the area a whole lot more than he did.

  • Thanks, any recommendations in the LA area?
