SPL 300ZX at the Redline Time Attack held in St. Louis Gateway Raceway Sep 2007. After attending the Grassroots Motorsports UTCC on Friday, we drove overnight from Virginia to St. Louis to make the Redline Time Attack on Saturday, despite a broken windshield and hood after the last session at VIR.

SPL failed to compete in the Time Attack sessions after losing a rod bearing in practice. This video was from that session. We suffered a major oiling issue where oil would overflow our catch can, through a drain tube connected to the oil pan, due to the left hand banked track. Oil coming out of the catch can would dump over our loaded right rear tire, so the car couldn't run WOT on the banked section, killing our straightaway speed. Despite that we ran multiple 1:10 laps in practice, which would have won Unlimited RWD if we made it through the day.

The oiling issue caused us to run low on oil (as low as 1qt) several times in practice, ultimately killing a rod bearing.

  • The best mods would be properly setup suspension and tires. Power is fun but does not make a fast track car; no lag is not necessarily desirable for a track car either, what is desirable is to have a power curve that is easy to control...

  • the best mod you can do on a z is dropping a fucking strong as fuck transmission without the shitty synchros found on the 90-96 transmissions. It is always second gear, fourth gear, or when going from fourth to third, or second to first that you have to fuck with the synchros please let me get the gear in please.....fuck that!!! you sould be able to hammer them inn on command ; )

  • Maybe im wrong but it looks like the driver isnt too confident in the braking sections. It seems like hes allowing the car to roll into the braking zones, giving him time to judge the turn.

  • I agree with you. But, his first lap was a warm up lap.

  • good speed, but you look pretty blocky in your turning. smooth it out.
