Kristin singing My White Knight in Meredith Willson's The Music Man.

My White Knight

My white knight, not a lancelot,
nor an angel with wings;
just someone to love me,
who is not ashamed of a few nice things.
My white knight who knew what my heart would say
if it only knew how.
Please, dear Venus, show me now.

All I want is a plain man; all i want is a modest man;
a quiet man, a gentle man, a straight forward and honest man
to sit with me in a cottage somewhere in the state of Iowa.
And I would like him to be more interested in me
than he is in himself.
And more interested in us than in me.
And if occasion'ly he'd ponder what make
Shakespeare and Beethoven great,
him I could love 'til I die. Him I could love 'til I die.

My white knight, not a lancelot,
nor an angel with wings.
Just someone to love me,
who is not ashamed of a few nice things.
My white knight, let me walk with him
where others ride by;
walk and love him 'til I die. 'til I die.

  • Kristin is one of those rare individuals, and at present only Bing Crosby springs to mind as a member of the group, who make song seem natural and almost effortless, who express their character through the means at their disposal, and a voice of great beauty happens - they imply- to be theirs.

  • Will Schuester will be perfect for her.(;

  • I love this version

  • @Ookmeister Agreed. With Jones, a wistful sadness of a WOMAN w some history. W Chenowith, its a schoolgirl--she's not as believable--I keep getting that GLEE/Broadway thing (look at me) getting in the way of the truth of the song--her gestures are hammy compared to natural Jones. Its a clownish performance--can't see what the fuss is all about with her--I can think of a dozen more talented singers. Chenowith has the technical chops--but you need more than that to put a song across.

    I can agree with you, I like Shirley Jones' voice. She makes the song seem more loving and powerful. While this version is definitely good (her voice is beautiful), I have to say she makes it feel a little bit more childish and whimsical, and I feel the song calls for a more serious tone.

  • I just auditioned for Marian in my school's version of the music man. I'm only a freshman but I know I'm better than any of the other high school kids trying out for the role. Especially Madison. She doesn't appreciate real music, she always gets what she wants, and her voice is mediocre at best. Like if you know someone just like that at your school! Or don't. I don't really care cuz I just ate a cupcake...

  • i'm here kristin, your white knight. i will pathetically defend you against online haters with the desperate intention of getting laid, before you put me in the friend zone.

  • what key is this in?

  • I wish they hadn't put it in such a low key, and I have to wonder why they did. With her training, KC would have no trouble hitting the G sharp.

  • Kristin does a wonderful job with this and all the songs. I wish "My White Knight" were better known. The trouble is, it's pretty difficult for a "Broadway" voice as it's more like an aria.

  • @windstorm1000 - YOU'RE not on Broadway, so why don't you take your negativity and stick it. :P

  • My favorite song, sung by my favorite actress.

    Beautiful lyrics, beautiful voice, beautiful acting, PERFECTION!
