Who is your favourite boxer of all time?

Thomas Johnson beat Isaac Perrins in a boxing match in 1789. This was such an important boxing match that two medals/tokens were struck to commemorate the event.

The following boxing memorabilia are featured in this video:

  • @negativeEclipse Thank you for your reply :)

  • That is a nice token. Very good condition. Is it made of copper? That looks like a bit of a mismatch, was Johnson the smaller of the boxers? It must be very valuable. Is it rare?

  • @bookcartpeddlerny Yes, its copper. Johnson was the smaller boxer and had to dance around the ring a lot in order to dodge Isaac's punches :) In some of the boxing matches at that time they disqualified you if you danced around too much but not in this particular one. It is quite rare. Thanks for popping by

  • @bookcartpeddlerny I don't think they bothered too much with weight divisions in those early days

  • i loved boxing as a 20 something year old (watching it)

we would go to boozer and watch tyson and the great irish boxers of the day

prince nasseem was funny too h ha

  • @birdman404 Yeah, quite a few legends have come out of Ireland. I'm quite addicted to the boxing on Youtube
